The film will be in Spanish with English subtitles.

Films for the future monthly events will also be selected for their similar family-oriented content. Popcorn and lemonade will be on sale and donations will be accepted. Proceeds will help purchase materials and supplies for the free courses offered at Finca La Maya every Saturday throughout the year. The event will be hosted by 13-year-old Natasha Hinojosa, also known by her stage name, Natyzoo Wabaloo.

The film will be shown next to the site of a new community library, partially completed, but in need of donations for purchase of materials. POLLERA PAINTINGS

Al Sprague is probably the most famous painter of Panamanian polleras. “I believe it is the most beautiful dress in the world.” says the Zone-born painter. His paintings of polleras, montunas and the Canal have gained him fame and regard in Panama and abroad.

He is returning to Panama to hold an exposition of his works at the Mery Palma Gallery at the Sheraton Hotel next to the ATLAPA Convention Center through Wednesday, June 25. Five origional oil paintings will be on display. Entrance is free of charge and the gallery is open Monday to Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

“Panamanian women are beautiful, their faces are mystical and mysterious.” says the painter who expertly captures the sentiment of Panamanian women dancing in their polleras that captivates locals just as much as foreigners. Presidents of the United States, France, Spain, Venezuela, Mexico, Columbia, Panama, and Brazil are among the important collectors of Al Sprague’s art. Visit www.panamart.com

You may not always agree with Eric but he is a courageous journalist with an independent voice. Come and hear what he has to say about the law, history, philosophy and culture that set the context for these conditions in Panama, and what you may and may not say.
